A470 Llanrwst to Hafod improvement

23 Apr 2008

The Welsh Assembly Government can announce the recent award of the contract for the A470 Llanrwst to Hafod Improvement scheme to Alun Griffiths Contractors Ltd of Abergavenny. The award was based on an assessment of quality and price.

The works will formally commence on 11 February 2008 with a 52 week construction period.

The improvement of the A470 between Llanrwst and Hafod will begin south of Llanrwst in the vicinity of Meadow Vale Garage and will terminate in the vicinity of Hafod Farm. The southern section of the scheme is within the

Snowdonia National Park. The proposed improvement is approximately 2km in length. The scheme will upgrade the existing A470 single carriageway to current standards and includes the provision of a cycleway/footway to

improve the situation for cyclists and pedestrians. The proposed scheme will comprise a 7.3m single carriageway with a 1m hard strip either side. Generally the widening works will be undertaken on the western side of the existing trunk road, thus enabling the majority of the vegetation to be retained along the eastern boundary. The existing junctions and accesses will be improved.

The Welsh Assembly Government regret any inconvenience caused to the travelling public whilst these works are carried out. Up to date information can be obtained at Traffic Wales, www.traffic-wales.com or on the Traffic Information Travel Line on 0845 6026020.
