A494, Rhos Street, Ruthin - Resurfacing and Road Safety Improvement Works

I am writing to inform you that The Welsh Government will be undertaking improvement works to the A494, Rhos Street; between the 30mph urban boundary and Briec roundabout. The works will include replacement of 0.8 kilometres of defective carriageway surface, modifications to side road junctions to incorporate pedestrian crossing facilities and improvements to road markings.

It is estimated that the works will take 4 weeks to complete and will take place between 6th February 2012 and 2nd March 2012. The works have been programmed to minimise disruption to school traffic. The main surfacing works will be undertaken during school half term from Saturday 11th February 2012 between hours of 07:30 and 18:00 (09:30 and 16:00 on Sundays). Any works undertaken during school term will be restricted to the period between 09:15 and 15:00.

The restricted width of the A494 is such that it is necessary to adopt a system of convoy working, where traffic will be obliged to follow a convoy vehicle through the works at 10 mph. Whilst the road will remain open, 20 minute temporary closures will be required to enable works to be completed through the narrowest section of this length of road. Delays are unfortunately inevitable and could affect any travel arrangements you may have.

The Welsh Government and North Wales Trunk Road Agency regret the inconvenience to the travelling public whilst these essential works are being undertaken. The traffic management arrangements must provide the safest environment for both road users, pedestrians and the workforce and every effort has been made to ensure the disruption to the majority of road users and local residents is minimal.

Further information on the A494 roadworks can be obtained on the website of the Welsh Government's Traffic Information Service, www.traffic-wales.com

Up to date 24 hours travel information is available on 0845 602 6020.
