Wales Interest Group for ITS

A warm welcome has been given to the new Wales Interest Group for Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) following its inaugural meeting of members and organisations recently.

Hosted by the Welsh Assembly Government at the Celtic Manor Hotel near Newport, the event on November 15th was attended by a wide range of interested parties such as Transport Wales, Traffic Wales, Welsh universities, consultancies, industry, police and public transport organisations.

The meeting was chaired by Mike Schofield (Atkins ITS) and a warm welcome was given by Robert Cone (Transport Wales).

A number of presentations were given by invitees including Neal Skelton (ITS United Kingdom), Vivien Collins (Welsh Assembly Government), Simon Jones (Traffic Wales), Ian Cater (Traffic Wales) and Jane Jones (International Business Wales).

During the meeting Vivien Collins laid out proposals for a committee to steer the new ITS group, details of which can be found in her presentation – click  Welsh Interest Group_ToR final.

At the end of the meeting Robert Cone concluded: "I am very pleased that there has been considerable interest and enthusiasm from individuals and organisations to join the Wales Interest Group for Intelligent Transport Systems.

"One of the key advantages of the group will be the opportunity to showcase a wide range of benefits which will also allow our members to develop both individual and national ITS activities."

At the next meeting on 11th March 2008 ITS-related organisations will be invited to give a short presentation of their activities to other participants.
